Spotlight: Donald G. Gill

What was his role in the Lab School?

Dr. Gill was principal of the Robert G. Buzzard Laboratory School for fourteen years (from 1960 until the time it closed).

An educator through and through, he was dedicated not only to the success of the Lab School, but also to the advancement of education across the state of Illinois. His term as associate state chairman of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, where he accredited junior high schools, reflected his commitment to continuing education.

In fact, he firmly believed that a proper education helped nurture good citizens, giving students the tools they needed to address unique problems and challenges brought on by rapid social change. Dr. Gill applied this philosophy at the Lab School. Labbies were encouraged to take advantage of their “enlightened education” in the hopes that they would go forth and better lives.

Donald G. Gill, Principal.
