For much of its history, Eastern Illinois University housed a campus laboratory school. It was here that many students attended grades K-12 and teacher candidates could complete observations or student teaching on campus. In 2012, Dean Diane Jackman secured a space within Buzzard Hall to create the EIU Lab School Museum. Attending a laboratory school herself in Wisconsin she recognized the importance of telling this story.

Forty years after the laboratory school closed, the College of Education and Professional Studies partnered with the Historical Administration to create the EIU Lab School Museum and the exhibit Mission, Method, Memory. This museum serves as a resource to current students, allowing them to learn more about Eastern’s educational history and examine how educational philosophy has changed through the years.

The EIU Lab School Museum and Mission, Method, Memory would not be possible without the support of the alums of the Eastern Illinois University Laboratory School and the College of Education and Professional Studies.
